Love Doesn't Change with Tone
The Forest woke up to a beautiful morning. Soft sunlight filtered through tall green leaves, touching the dew on leaves like tiny diamonds. Birds sang happily from branch to branch, and a small stream flowed nearby, making gentle water sounds that felt calm and peaceful. everything in the forest felt warm, safe and full of life.
In the forest lived a deer family with their kid Lumi. Lumi noticed feelings more than sounds. if someone spoke loudly, he felt scared even when they were not angry. when someone smiled at him, that smile stayed in his heart for the whole day. He liked quiet places, watching ants walk in lines, listening to leaves move with the wind, and sitting near the stream alone.
He was not weak, but soft inside. Lumi believed every word has meaning, and every tone carried emotion. Because of this, he was kind to others, but he also carried sadness longer than most. What others brushed away,Lumi kept in his heart.
Lumi's parents loved him very much. his father worked hard every day, searching for food and keeping the family safe from dangers. His mother spent long hours collecting herbs, watching over lumi, and managing their small home near the bushes. Life was not easy for them. Food was sometime less, and their days were filled with efforts and tiredness. Still, everynight, they made sure lumi slept safely beside them.
One day while lumi was playing near the stream, his parents were busy gathering food. Lumi followed bright butterflies as they danced above the water. He jumped from stone to stone, dipping his hooves into the cool stream and splashing softly. The water rippled, and lumi laughed as tine fish darted away. Nearby, Lumi's father moved carefully through the bushes. He lowered his head, sniffing the ground to find safe paths and fresh grass. His ears stayed alert for danger, and his legs ached from walking since early morning. Each step required focus, as he searched for food and watched the surroundings at the same time.
Lumi's splashing echoed between the trees. The sound broke his father's concentration. Tired and worried, he lifted his head and spoke louder than he meant to, asking lumi to stop.
" Lumi, stop running around!" his father said loudly without thinking. Lumi frooze.
He didn't reply. He quietly walked away, his heart feeling heavy, not knowing what mistake he made. neither his father explained.
Another day, lumi was hopping around the clearing, pretending to race with small birds that flew low between the trees. He ran a few steps, stopped, and ran again, laughing soflty as the birds chirped and fluttered away. His hooves brushed fallen leaves, making light sounds on the ground.
Nearby, Lumi's mother was arranging dry leaves and grass for storage. She carefully sorted them knowing they would be needed later when food was hard to find. Her body felt heavy from a long day of work alone and her mind was full of worries about keeping lumi safe and fed. As lumi's palyful movements disturbed the neatly piled leaves again and again, her tiredness turned into irritation.
Without meaning to hurt him, she spoke sharply,"why can't you sit quietly for once?"
Those words stayed in lumi's mind. He knew his parents loved him, but the shouting hurt him deeply. Lumi did not understand tiredness or stress the way adults did. In his soft heart, loud voices felt like anger, even when they were not meant the way.
He replayed those moments again and again in his thoughts. He wondered if he had done something wrong, or if his fun had caused trouble. Though the incidents were small and unintentional, lumi felt them strongly. Each sharp word settled quietly inside him, making him more careful, more silent and more unsure of himself.
slowly lumi began to change. he answered only when spoke to. he stopped palying with others. he preferred sitting alone, watching clouds, enjoying silence. his parents noticed the change, but they thought he was just growing up.
Inside lumi felt unsure about everything he did. Before moving, he thought again and again. before playing he wondered if it might disturb someone. Even small actions felt risky to him. He believed that every step, every sound, needed extra care so that no one would get upset. Because of this lumi became very careful. he watched more than he acted. He stayed quiet not because he did not want to play, but because he was afraid of making mistakes. Silence felt safer than joy.
One afternoon, an emergency came. Lumi's mother suddenly felt ill, and his father needed help quickly. he asked lumi to carry a small pouch of important herbs to a nearby hollow tree.
Lumi took the small pouch carefully in his mouth. His father's voice still echoed in his mind: "be quick. be careful."
as he walked towards the hollow tree, his thoughts grew louder than the forest around him.,
"i must not drop it, i must not be late, The herbs must not get crushed. This time i should not make any mistake."
He walked more slowly than usual, watching everystep. He avoided small stones, stepped around twigs, and chose the smoothest path. Even when the wind blew, he paused to make sure the pouch was still safe. His heart beat fast, not because the task was hard, but because he wanted to do it perfectly. when he reached the hollow tree, he carefully bent down to place the pouch inside. but in trying to adjust it neatly, he loosened his grip for just a moment. The pouch slipped from his mouth, rolled down the dry leaves, and disappeared under a thick pile.
Lumi froze.
He pushed aside leaves gently, afraid of tearing the pouch. he searched again and again. but the more careful he became, the more nervous his movements grew, in trying so hard not to make a mistake, he had made one.
His chest tightened. the forest suddenly felt too quiet
His heart started racing, "What if they shout?", " What if they get angry again?", his thoughts kept growing bigger and darker.
Instead of going home, lumi ran deeper into the forest, hiding himself. as evening came, his parents realized lumi was missing. Fear replaced all tiredness. They searched everywhere, calling his name with tears in their eyes.
Atlast, they found lumi curled under a tree, shaking.
His mother gently held him, even though she was still weak, her breathing was slow, but her eyes were full of worry and love.
lumi could not hold his feelings anymore.
" I Lost the pouch," he said in a trembling voice." I tried to be very careful. I didn't want to make any mistake. I thought if i failed, you and father would be angry again. I didn't come back because... because i was scared. I thought i had disappointed you"
Tears filled his eyes." When you shout, even if it is small, it stays in my mind for many days. I keep thinking about it. I try to be perfect so you won't feel tired because of me. I thought if i stayed away, I wouldn't cause trouble."
His mothers heart ached as she listened. She slowly understood the silence of the past few days- The quiet answers, the lonely siting, the careful steps. It was not distance. it was fear. She touched his forehead softly.
Lumi's father stepped closer and lowered his head beside them. His voice was calm now, steady and warm.
"Lumi, he said softly," sometime our days are harder than we show. when we sound strict or raise our voice, it is not beacuse you are a burden to us. It is because we carry many worries — about food, safety, and your future. We want you safe and strong. That is why we react quickly.”
His mother gently brushed the leaves from Lumi’s back.
“My little one,” she said, “a tired voice is not an unloving
heart. You must not collect our sharp moments and build fear from them. If
something we say hurts you, speak to us. Do not let your thoughts grow alone in
the dark.”
She smiled faintly.
“Our love does not change with our tone. It stays the same —
every morning, every night. Promise us you will share your feelings instead of
hiding them.”
Lumi listened quietly. This time, he understood. The
loudness he once feared was not rejection — it was protection spoken through
exhaustion.
He walked home between them, his steps lighter than before.
Lumi finally spoke. He understood that his parents’
struggles made them tired, not unloving.
That night, the forest was quiet again — but warmer.
